The Church of Stuff is only nominally organized. There is no central authority, and no priest has any more authority than any other. Once a person has become a priest, they have exactly as much power and authority as any other priest. For those who wish to become priests, there is a practice in place to test would-be members for their mental flexibility, intuitiveness, and intelligence. This process is described at the end of this page.
Priests of the Church can chose for themselves any title they want. In that
no priest has any authority over any other, no title can hold any more significance
than any other. We only suggest to our priests that they choose titles which
reflect, in some way, what they choose to do in their functions as a representative
of the Church.
Further to this point, what any given priest does in their capacity as a
representative of the church is entirely up to them. They are equally welcome
to go out evangelizing - converting people to our cause - as they are to live
lives of quiet solitude, as to performing services for the Church as to effecting
change in the society around them in such a way as to better suit our code
of ethics, as to doing nothing at all. It is entirely up to them what their
function as a priest is.
We only make two demands of our priests: First, that they represent us accurately
to the rest of the world - adhering to our agreed code of ethics in the manner
which they see fit. And second, that when somebody wishes to become a priest
of the CoS, that they be willing to administer the test.
Although anyone can become a member of the Church who wants to - we only ask
that you notify one of us if you choose to consider yourself a member of our
religion - we offer priesthood only to those who are willing and able to prove
themselves to any existing priest of the Church to be tested. The test is
simple in principle, if complex in practice.
Upon contacting a priest and expressing your wish to become a priest yourself,
the Priest administering the test will compose a series of five different
topics for the testee to argue, and five different points of view to argue
them from.
These topics can be in regards to anything the priest feels the testee can
reasonably be assumed to know about, and these points of view can be any viewpoint
which the testee can reasonably be expected to be able to comprehend.
After the priest has delivered these criteria to the testee, the testee will
have one month to prepare themselves for the test, though they can ask to
be tested at any time during this month if they feel they're prepared. If,
during the course of this month, they decide that any of the criteria are
unreasonable, they can ask any other priest for arbitration. The two priests
involved will confer on the subject and get back to the testee in a prompt
manner.
The test will then be administered in person or over the phone, though not
online, unless long-distance fees for BOTH the Priest and the testee are prohibitive
for whatever reason. The testing may take some time, as the priest must be
satisfied that the testee has demonstrated that they have truly grasped the
concepts and opinions involved. The point of the test, after all, is that
the testee be able to comprehend the thoughts and feelings of those people
they'll be asked to argue against in their capacity as priests of the Church.
If you have any other questions, E-mail one of our priests in the members
